Jessie Faucet
was born in Camden County, New Jersey, on April 27th 1882. She was
an American editor, poet, and novelist. Faucet was the literary editor for the
Crisis; she supported new people during the Harlem Renaissance. Faucet was inspired to write a novel after
reading the wrong perspective of African-American in a book by a white author. After
that came her first novel called “There is Confusion.” Faucet left her position
at The Crisis in 1926. She looked for a job in publishing, but because of her
race it wasn’t easy.
“Faucet was
responsible for the development of many new African-American voices, while her
novels, essays, poems and other work meant that she was a prolific author in
her own right.”
