Jim Crow

Jim crow laws were laws were state and local laws that enforced segregation in the south. Because of these laws, the south had been named the Jim Crow south. The name of the laws came from a racist but very popular song called jump Jim crow. The song was preformed along with a dance by a "comedian" named  Thomas Dartmouth who preformed in black face.
Jim crow laws were a huge representation of racism form the government. Segregation was happening in schools, stores, restaurant, water fountains, and many more place. The laws made it acceptable for African American people to be denied service because of the color of their skin.
Jim crow laws began in the 1860's and ended in 1965.

I think Jim crow laws were an example of anxiety. White people were nervous about what affect African Americans would have on their way of life so segregation was their solution. If they didn't try to integrate their lives, they would never have any unwanted change cause by African Americans.
